This great FAQ should be helpful for all the n00bs who are wondering what telesync, CAM, screeners etc are.

Sources

CAM -

A cam is a theater rip usually done with a digital video camera. A mini tripod is sometimes used, but a lot of the time this wont be possible, so the camera make shake. Also seating placement isn't always idle, and it might be filmed from an angle. If cropped properly, this is hard to tell unless there's text on the screen, but a lot of times these are left with triangular borders on the top and bottom of the screen. Sound is taken from the onboard microphone of the camera, and especially in comedies, laughter can often be heard during the film. Due to these factors picture and sound quality are usually quite poor, but sometimes we're lucky, and the theater will be fairly empty and a fairly clear signal will be heard.

TELESYNC (TS) -

A telesync is the same spec as a CAM except it uses an external audio source (most likely an audio jack in the chair for hard of hearing people). A direct audio source does not ensure a good quality audio source, as a lot of background noise can interfere. A lot of the times a telesync is filmed in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, giving a better picture quality. Quality ranges drastically, check the sample before downloading the full release. A high percentage of Telesyncs are CAMs that have been mislabeled.

TELECINE (TC) -

A telecine machine copies the film digitally from the reels. Sound and picture should be very good, but due to the equipment involved and cost telecines are fairly uncommon. Generally the film will be in correct aspect ratio, although 4:3 telecines have existed. A great example is the JURASSIC PARK 3 TC done last year. TC should not be confused with TimeCode , which is a visible counter on screen throughout the film.

SCREENER (SCR) -

A pre VHS tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a VHS tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (full screen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a "ticker" (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occurred, some looking better than others.

DVD-SCREENER (DVDscr) -

Same premise as a screener, but transferred off a DVD. Usually letterbox , but without the extras that a DVD retail would contain. The ticker is not usually in the black bars, and will disrupt the viewing. If the ripper has any skill, a DVDscr should be very good. Usually transferred to SVCD or DivX/XviD.

R5 LINE (R5) -

R5 refers to a specific format of DVD released in DVD Region 5, the former Soviet Union, and bootlegged copies of these releases that are distributed on the Internet. In an effort to compete with movie piracy, the movie industry chose to create a new format for DVD releases that could be produced more quickly and less expensively than traditional DVD releases. R5 releases differ from normal releases in that they are usually a direct Telecine transfer of the film without any of the image processing common on DVD releases, and without any special features. This allows the film to be released for sale at the same time that DVD Screeners are released. Since DVD Screeners are the chief source of high-quality pre-DVD release pirated movies, this allows the movie studios to beat the pirates to market. In some cases, R5 DVDs may be released without an English audio track, requiring pirates to use the direct line audio from the film's theatrical release. In this case, the pirated release should be tagged with ".LINE" to distinguish it from a release with a DVD audio track.

The image quality of an R5 release is generally comparable to a DVD Screener release, except without the added scrolling text and black and white scenes that serve to distinguish screeners from commercial DVD releases. The quality is better than Telecine transfers produced by movie pirates because the transfer is performed using professional-grade film scanning equipment.

DVDRip -

A copy of the final released DVD. If possible this is released PRE retail (for example, Star Wars episode 2) again, should be excellent quality. DVDrips are released in SVCD and DivX/XviD.

VHSRip -

Transferred off a retail VHS, mainly skating/sports videos and XXX releases.

TVRip -

TV episode that is either from Network (capped using digital cable/satellite boxes are preferable) or PRE-AIR from satellite feeds sending the program around to networks a few days earlier (do not contain "dogs" but sometimes have flickers etc) Some programs such as WWF Raw Is War contain extra parts, and the "dark matches" and camera/commentary tests are included on the rips. PDTV is capped from a digital TV PCI card, generally giving the best results, and groups tend to release in SVCD for these. VCD/SVCD/DivX/XviD rips are all supported by the TV scene.

WORKPRINT (WP) -

A workprint is a copy of the film that has not been finished. It can be missing scenes, music, and quality can range from excellent to very poor. Some WPs are very different from the final print (Men In Black is missing all the aliens, and has actors in their places) and others can contain extra scenes (Jay and Silent Bob) . WPs can be nice additions to the collection once a good quality final has been obtained.

DivX Re-Enc -

A DivX re-enc is a film that has been taken from its original VCD source, and re-encoded into a small DivX file. Most commonly found on file sharers, these are usually labeled something like Film.Name.Group(1of2) etc. Common groups are SMR and TND. These aren't really worth downloading, unless you're that unsure about a film u only want a 200mb copy of it. Generally avoid.

Watermarks -

A lot of films come from Asian Silvers/PDVD (see below) and these are tagged by the people responsible. Usually with a letter/initials or a little logo, generally in one of the corners. Most famous are the "Z" "A" and "Globe" watermarks.

Asian Silvers / PDVD -

These are films put out by eastern bootleggers, and these are usually bought by some groups to put out as their own. Silvers are very cheap and easily available in a lot of countries, and its easy to put out a release, which is why there are so many in the scene at the moment, mainly from smaller groups who don't last more than a few releases. PDVDs are the same thing pressed onto a DVD. They have removable subtitles, and the quality is usually better than the silvers. These are ripped like a normal DVD, but usually released as VCD.

Formats

VCD -

VCD is an mpeg1 based format, with a constant bitrate of 1150kbit at a resolution of 352x240 (NTCS). VCDs are generally used for lower quality transfers (CAM/TS/TC/Screener(VHS)/TVrip(analogue) in order to make smaller file sizes, and fit as much on a single disc as possible. Both VCDs and SVCDs are timed in minutes, rather than MB, so when looking at an mpeg, it may appear larger than the disc capacity, and in reality u can fit 74min on a CDR74.

SVCD -

SVCD is an mpeg2 based (same as DVD) which allows variable bit-rates of up to 2500kbits at a resolution of 480x480 (NTSC) which is then decompressed into a 4:3 aspect ratio when played back. Due to the variable bit-rate, the length you can fit on a single CDR is not fixed, but generally between 35-60 Mins are the most common. To get a better SVCD encode using variable bit-rates, it is important to use multiple "passes". this takes a lot longer, but the results are far clearer.

XVCD/XSVCD -

These are basically VCD/SVCD that don't obey the "rules". They are both capable of much higher resolutions and bit-rates, but it all depends on the player to whether the disc can be played. X(S)VCD are total non-standards, and are usually for home-ripping by people who don't intend to release them.

DivX / XviD -

DivX is a format designed for multimedia platforms. It uses two codecs, one low motion, one high motion. most older films were encoded in low motion only, and they have problems with high motion too. A method known as SBC (Smart Bit-rate Control) was developed which switches codecs at the encoding stage, making a much better print. The format is Ana orphic and the bit-rate/resolution are interchangeable. Due to the higher processing power required, and the different codecs for playback, its unlikely we'll see a DVD player capable of play DivX for quite a while, if at all. There have been players in development which are supposedly capable, but nothing has ever arisen. The majority of PROPER DivX rips (not Re-Encs) are taken from DVDs, and generally up to 2hours in good quality is possible per disc. Various codecs exist, most popular being the original Divx3.11a and the new XviD codecs.

CVD -

CVD is a combination of VCD and SVCD formats, and is generally supported by a majority of DVD players. It supports MPEG2 bit-rates of SVCD, but uses a resolution of 352x480(ntsc) as the horizontal resolution is generally less important. Currently no groups release in CVD.

DVD-R -

Is the recordable DVD solution that seems to be the most popular (out of DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD+R). it holds 4.7gb of data per side, and double sided discs are available, so discs can hold nearly 10gb in some circumstances. SVCD mpeg2 images must be converted before they can be burnt to DVD-R and played successfully. DVD>DVDR copies are possible, but sometimes extras/languages have to be removed to stick within the available 4.7gb.

MiniDVD -

MiniDVD/cDVD is the same format as DVD but on a standard CDR/CDRW. Because of the high resolution/bit-rates, its only possible to fit about 18-21 mins of footage per disc, and the format is only compatible with a few players.

Misc. Info

Regional Coding -

This was designed to stop people buying American DVDs and watching them earlier in other countries, or for older films where world distribution is handled by different companies. A lot of players can either be hacked with a chip, or via a remote to disable this.

RCE -

RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) was designed to overcome "Multiregion" players, but it had a lot of faults and was overcome. Very few titles are RCE encoded now, and it was very unpopular.

Macrovision -

Macrovision is the copy protection employed on most commercial DVDs. Its a system that will display lines and darken the images of copies that are made by sending the VHS signals it can't understand. Certain DVD players (for example the Dansai 852 from Tescos) have a secret menu where you can disable the macrovision, or a "video stabaliser" costs about 30UKP from Maplin ( Code: www.maplin.co.uk )

NTSC/PAL -

NTSC and PAL are the two main standards used across the world. NTSC has a higher frame rate than pal (29fps compared to 25fps) but PAL has an increased resolution, and gives off a generally sharper picture. Playing NTSC discs on PAL systems seems a lot easier than vice-versa, which is good news for the Brits icon_smile.gif An RGB enabled scart lead will play an NTSC picture in full colour on most modern tv sets, but to record this to a VHS tape, you will need to convert it to PAL50 (not PAL60 as the majority of DVD players do.) This is either achieved by an expensive converter box (in the regions of £200+) an onboard converter (such as the Dansai 852 / certain Daewoos / Samsung 709 ) or using a World Standards VCR which can record in any format.

News Sites -

There are generally 2 news sites, and I'm allowed to be biased icon_smile.gif For Games/Apps/Console :: Code: www.isonews.com is generally regarded as the best, but for VCD/SVCD/DivX/TV/XXX Code: www.vcdquality.com displays screen grabs and allows feedback. **NOTICE** neither site offers movie downloads, and requesting movies/trades etc on the forums of either is NOT permitted.

Release Files

RARset -

The movies are all supplied in RAR form, whether its v2 (rar>.rxx) or v3 (part01.rar > partxx.rar) form.

BIN/CUE -

VCD and SVCD films will extract to give a BIN/CUE. Load the .CUE into notepad and make sure the first line contains only a filename, and no path information. Then load the cue into Nero/CDRWin etc and this will burn the VCD/SVCD correctly. TV rips are released as MPEG. DivX files are just the plain DivX - .AVI

NFO -

An NFO file is supplied with each movie to promote the group, and give general iNFOrmation about the release, such as format, source, size, and any notes that may be of use. They are also used to recruit members and acquire hardware for the group.

SFV -

Also supplied for each disc is an SFV file. These are mainly used on site level to check each file has been uploaded correctly, but are also handy for people downloading to check they have all the files, and the CRC is correct. A program such as pdSFV or hkSFV is required to use these files.

Scene Tags

PROPER -

Due to scene rules, whoever releases the first Telesync has won that race (for example). But if the quality of that release is fairly poor, if another group has another telesync (or the same source in higher quality) then the tag PROPER is added to the folder to avoid being duped. PROPER is the most subjective tag in the scene, and a lot of people will generally argue whether the PROPER is better than the original release. A lot of groups release PROPERS just out of desperation due to losing the race. A reason for the PROPER should always be included in the NFO.

SUBBED -

In the case of a VCD, if a release is subbed, it usually means it has hard encoded subtitles burnt throughout the movie. These are generally in malaysian/chinese/thai etc, and sometimes there are two different languages, which can take up quite a large amount of the screen. SVCD supports switch able subtitles, so some DVDRips are released with switch able subs. This will be mentioned in the NFO file if included.

UNSUBBED -

When a film has had a subbed release in the past, an Unsubbed release may be released

LIMITED -

A limited movie means it has had a limited theater run, generally opening in less than 250 theaters, generally smaller films (such as art house films) are released as limited.

INTERNAL -

An internal release is done for several reasons. Classic DVD groups do a lot of .INTERNAL. releases, as they wont be dupe'd on it. Also lower quality theater rips are done INTERNAL so not to lower the reputation of the group, or due to the amount of rips done already. An INTERNAL release is available as normal on the groups affiliate sites, but they can't be traded to other sites without request from the site ops. Some INTERNAL releases still trickle down to IRC/Newsgroups, it usually depends on the title and the popularity. Earlier in the year people referred to Centropy going "internal". This meant the group were only releasing the movies to their members and site ops. This is in a different context to the usual definition.

STV -

Straight To Video. Was never released in theaters, and therefore a lot of sites do not allow these.

ASPECT RATIO TAGS -

These are *WS* for widescreen (letterbox) and *FS* for Fullscreen

RECODE -

A recode is a previously released version, usually filtered through TMPGenc to remove subtitles, fix color etc. Whilst they can look better, its not looked upon highly as groups are expected to obtain their own sources.

REPACK -

If a group releases a bad rip, they will release a Repack which will fix the problems.

NUKED -

A film can be nuked for various reasons. Individual sites will nuke for breaking their rules (such as "No Telesyncs") but if the film has something extremely wrong with it (no soundtrack for 20mins, CD2 is incorrect film/game etc) then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits. Nuked films can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but its a good idea to check why it was nuked first in case. If a group realise there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.

NUKE REASONS :: this is a list of common reasons a film can be nuked for (generally DVDRip)

** BAD A/R ** :: bad aspect ratio, ie people appear too fat/thin

** BAD IVTC ** :: bad inverse telecine. process of converting framerates was incorrect.

** INTERLACED ** :: black lines on movement as the field order is incorrect.

DUPE -

Dupe is quite simply, if something exists already, then theres no reason for it to exist again without proper reason.

Hide entire drive !!

How to Hide the whole drive

First Press Start+R [Run]

Type - diskpart and hit Enter
A command window will appear like this
Now type -select volume [Your Volume number of the drive you want to hide ]

It will list all the drives of ur PC/Lappi

Now type - Remove letter h [h is my drive's letter [type the letter of your selected drive] ]

Congo!! now the Drive is Hidden!!
IF it is not hidden though, do reboot ur System

How to Unhide the Drive

Do Step 1 ,2 and 3 Again
1>Press Start+R[Run]
2>Type List Volume
3>Select Volume

Now when u see the msg that the volume is selected,
Type - Assign letter=h[Letter that was of ur Drive]

Done

NOTE: This trick can not Hide System Drive [C:]

11 ways adsense detects an invalid click

1. IP Address

It is the easist and must be recognized by everyone. If those clicks on your ads are originated from the same IP Address as the one used for accessing your AdSense account, your account is flagged.

2. Click Through Rate (CTR)

Normally, Click thru Rate should not excees 10%. Otherwise, Google will flag your account. For your information, normal CTR should ranges from 0.5% - 10%.

3. Physical Location

Google has good tracing software and technology.They can trace traffics origin down to the small town. So, using different computers with different IP address does not secure anything. So, don't try to click your ads in various internet cafes. That will kill you.

4. Cookies

Most home users do not use static IP Address for Internet connection. In most cases just disconnect and reconnect will give you a new IP Address. But don't forget, Google has set cookies on your computer. They can trace these cookies and see whether they originate from the same computer.

5. Click Pattern 1

It is also suspicious when people click on their clicks and then run away immediately (hit-and-run). But normally, people will surf for a while inside your pages and then click on the ads they want.

8. Other Google Services

Apart from Google Adsense, Google also provide a series of services to us. Don't just think that it is safe if you do not log in your adsense account and click on your ads. What other Google services do they provide to us? Here are some: Gmail (most poeple are using it), Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Search, Google Toolbar, Google Talk, Google Sitemap, Google Desktop, Blogger, or even Youtube (coz Google has just recently acquired it).

9. Search Engine Ranking

Your website is not indexed on any search engine, not linked by any prominent website, but get consistently high traffic? How come people can access your website and click your ads? That will make Google to smell a rat.

10. Webpage design

How about the "Please click a link below" or "donate us by clicking the ads"? These kinds of encouragement is not in line with Google's TOS. Google can use their winning search engine, or even human eyes to check your sites from time to time.

11. Advertisers conversion rate

Ad click is one thing. But does it bring value to the advertisers? If none of the clicks on your site translate to conversion to the advertiser, you are in trouble. First the Smart-Pricing hits, then your AdSense account disabled.

How To Share Internet Connection in XP Without Wireless Router

Let’s say you have a laptop that is equipped with both ethernet(wired) and wireless network adapter and it is connected directly to the Internet using an ADSL modem. Now your younger brother also bought a new laptop and wants to use the Internet. Instead of spending money in buying a wireless broadband router, you can save up the money and share the Internet from your laptop using the built-in wireless network adapter.

If you have a desktop computer that don’t have built-in wireless adapter, you can buy a USB wireless adapter for less than 7-800\- or US$10 and it is so much cheaper compared to a router. Here’s how to share Internet connection from your laptop or desktop that is equipped with wireless adapter.

First we’ll need to setup the HOST computer. HOST means the computer that is directly connected to the Internet via ADSL modem and it will be the one that is sharing the Internet connection. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections, you should see a Local Area Connection, Wireless Network Connection and a connection dailer (I use Streamyx). In detailed view mode, it shows a lot of useful information regarding your connections.

Below are the steps to configure the HOST computer:
1. Right click the connection which you use to connect to the Internet and select Properties. Go to Advanced tab and check “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection”

2. Click the drop down menu and select “Wireless Network Connection“. Click OK.

3. Go back to Network Connections, right click Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

4. Go to Wireless Networks tab.

5. Click Advanced button, select Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only, and make sure that Automatically connect to non-preferred networks is UNCHECK. Close it.

6. Click Add button and Wireless network properties Window will appear. Enter any Network name (SSID), and change Data encryption
to Disabled. You can change it to WEP when everything is working fine.

7. Right click at the wireless adapter icon from system tray and select “View Available Wireless Networks“. Select the Network name (SSID) that you entered at step 6 and click Connect.

The HOST configuration is done. From what I read on most guide, step 7 above is not necessary but don’t know why if I don’t do that, the CLIENT won’t see the HOST in the wireless network list.
Next, we’ll need to configure the client computer now which is very simple. CLIENT computer means the laptop or desktop that will be connecting to the HOST computer.

1. Right click tray wireless adapter icon from system tray, and select “View Available Wireless Networks”. Select the HOST computer and click Connect.

The client computer will automatically acquire IP address
from HOST computer because Internet Connection
Sharing is enabled. It might take a while, so be patient. Now both the HOST and CLIENT computer can connect to Internet and also share files with each other. See, sharing Internet without wireless router

What is a Bad Sector?

Hard drives are contain millions of sectors. It is very normal for some of these sectors to be bad sectors, even when the drive is first manufactured.

In addition, a small number of sectors will normally go bad during the lifespan of a drive.

When this happens, the data in those sectors may be lost, but the data on the rest of the disk will be unaffected and the disk is still completely usable.

Defragmenting a hard drive rearranges the files so that each file is stored in a contiguous collection of disk sectors. This makes reading and writing files much faster

Over time, Microsoft Windows will slowly fragment your files, storing parts of each file in seemingly random physical locations on the hard drive. As this happens, your files will take longer and longer to access. The solution is to defrag your hard drive.

Luckily, starting the process of defragmenting the drive is not a hard one.

To start out, simply open up the "My Computer" window and then right click on the hard drive you would like to defrag (if you only have one hard drive then it is most likely the "C" drive). From that window, go down to the very bottom and select the "Properties" button. When the properties window is displayed, click the "Tools" tab near the top of the window. Here there will be a button labeled "Defragment Now..." which you should now select.

The Disk Defragmenter screen allows you two options to begin with, Analyze and Defragment. Analyze will let you know whether the computer thinks it is time to defrag the hard drive, but if you haven't done it in a while then it is definitely time to do so.

Once you start the defrag process, you should basically leave the computer alone. This process uses up a lot of system resources and will slow the computer quite a bit. Although the defrag process can be paused or stopped, it is usually good to just leave the computer be for however long it takes (it can take up to a few hours depending on how much information is on the drive).

Defragmenting the hard drive will keep your hard drive running efficiently. This will help to speed up the computer as a whole and this process should be done at least once a month to keep the computer working at maximum efficiency.

In just a few steps you can turn it into your personal torrent search engine. And by using labels and filters you can keep your inbox clean.

Why should I care?

Well, it helps you to track your favorite tv-show, artist, linux distro or anticipated release. By using rss-feeds, you don’t need to search manually, and the torrents you’re interested in will be forwarded to your gmail account.

Step 1

Find an rss-feed for your favorite content. RSS feeds keep track of the latest torrents. The good thing is that sites like torrentz and mininova offer search related feeds. So, what you need to do is search for the content you need, and copy the url of the search feed.

For example, A search for “knoppix” (torrentz | mininova) will give you a list of results and an RSS feed (torrentz | mininova.

Now, copy the url of the RSS feed and go to step 2

Now we have our RSS feed. You could of course put this feed in your favorite RSS reader, but we want to use Gmail to do the job, and nicely archive the torrents. So, go to rssfwd and enter the url of your search feed, and your email address. Rssfwd will now forward all new torrents to your gmail account.

How to know someone's IP Address

In many cases, it's desired to know the IP address of someone in the reconnaissance phase. The first question to ask is what information do I have about this person. In most cases it's possible that you have the email or IM of the target. First let's discuss the methods:

Method 1

if you have a web server hosted someplace where you can see its logs then it's very easy to send someone a URL of an image or any webpage hosted on your web server (http://123.123.123.123/veryfunnyimage.jpg) whenever this page is visited the web server keeps a log of who visited that page (IP address, time, browser, OS ... and lots of more info) where you can check later to collect IP addresses. if

Method 2

sometimes people get freaked out from addresses that have ip addresses in the URL so having your webserver with a domain name would really help the person you sent the URL to press on the link (www.mywebsite.com/veryfunnyimage.jpg)

Method 3

Some paranoid people don't open links to unknown sites. so here comes the cool trick. you can embed the image in a post of yours in a known site that allows HTML tags with image sources like < img src = (your image URL). in this case the URL you are going to send to the person is a link to a known website but the website contains another link to your web server. And whenever someone views this page on the known website, the "img src" link is invoked and voila!, you have a log entry on your webserver.

Method 4

Some Ultra paranoid people don't open links at all!! for these people I use my old trick. I send an email to the target that looks important to him (depending on the target actually and what's important to him). This email is in HTML format and contains a tag that links to an image on my webserver (probably a white image not to attract attention). Now upon merely opening the email, my webserver is invoked and a log entry is saved about the persons current IP address.

Note that this method only works if the email client allows images to be displayed (gmail disable that by default)

Method 5

A more faster approach is IM. If you have the IM of the target, then it's possible that you try to send him a file (not malicious, a picture or smthng). upon sending the file, a direct connection is established between you and the target. with a simple connection monitoring application (e.g.netstat on windows), you can know the Ip address.

Method 6

Some paranoid people don't accept files! so another trick in case of MSN is background sharing. the default for MSN is to accept backgrounds shared by others. Actually background sharing performs file sending if the background is not one of the default backgrounds. So the trick is to set your background for the IM to a cool pic from your computer and share it. if the default setting was not altered on your target's IM, then he will automatically accept it right away and a connection is opened. here comes again the connection monitoring app where you can identify the new connection and extract the IP add of the target.

Well those are one's that I used .. do you have any other methods ?? sometimes I only have the username on a forum or website. Any clues?

Method 7

In MSN messenger, if u don't have the display picture of the person you're talking to, the messenger will try to download it by default. this cause the the MSN to open a direct connection. Using a sniffing tool like wireshark will allow you to know the IP of the remote person.So basically if you don't have his display picture and you opened the chat window you'll get your log entry. You can either convince the target to change his/her display picture or you can remove the your local directory that caches the display pictures for all contacts (located in application data folder for the msn) to force the messenger to redownload the picture.

Most of the files we download from the Internet are in Zip or Rar format. We wouldn’t like if we download an archive to find that the file we are looking for is not there. And it is also such a waste of Bandwidth and time to download a whole archive just for a single file. Archview is a Firefox addon that lets you preview the contents of an Archive before downloading. And using it you can even download a single file from the archive.
Currently it supports only RAR, ZIP and ISO format but that should be enough as they are the 2 most popular and common formats being used today. Archview adds itself to the stats bar and becomes active when the user clicks on a zip or rar link. It displays the contents almost instantly and presents the files of the archive in an XML or HTML interface. And what’s more, it even lets you download individual files for an archive, now no need to download a 10 MB archive for a file of 100 Kb that is inside.

Increase the Maximum Recording Time

Some useful bit of information which I thought of sharing.Not many might know of torrents,downloading and stuff especially port forwarding.

BitTorrent is just a way of sharing/downloading files. Sometimes, you just download files from a server (one-way) through your browser. You also have download managers to manage this e.g. DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), IDM (Internet Download Manager), FDM (Free Download Manager)

Then there's P2P = Peer-to-Peer where you don't depend on a central server, but you share the load among fellow downloaders (peers). You download the file from people who already have the file and after it is done, you share the file for whoever may be looking for it. KaZaa, Sharaaza, eDonkey are some clients which help you there.

Now, BitTorrent can be considered as an advanced P2P.

Assume you want to download a legal, shareable copy of a movie of size 1.36 GB and later you would like to share it with your friends.

Step-1: You first visit a site which maintains a list of .torrent files. There are plenty of sites which do that and you can find .torrent files even through Google. But, wait a minute, let me tell you what this file is like. It is a very small file, around 20 KB or so in size. It contains name, file-list of the movie you are planning to download and the location of the tracker server. This tracker server helps to keeps track of IPs which have the complete file and which IPs are downloading this file.

Step-2: So now, you have downloaded this small .torrent file (perhaps with a download manager). You need to find a Torrent client now - the software which should manage your download. I use uTorrent, which is very light in file size and should be fine for basic usage. There are many more like Azureus, BitComet etc.

Step-3: We have added the torrent file into the torrent client. Now, here's where the fun part begins - the client gets statistical information from the tracker and displays it to you e.g. In this case, 1 person has the complete file (and is called a seeder), while you are the one who requires the file (and you are called the leecher). In BitTorrent, each file is actually 'n' number of pieces. Assuming the .torrent file specifies 1 MB for each piece, we need to download 1400 pieces. The client usually displays IPs of your seeds and leechers/peers and info about how much data is being passed from them to you or vice versa.

Step-4: The first piece (e.g. Piece #440, which is 1MB in size) has been received by your torrent client now. Then a customs check-up takes place to see if the data is as expected. SHA-1 hash keys are used for this and the .torrent file has the list of hashes for every single piece. If the hash of the downloaded piece does not match with the one in the .torrent file, it is dropped and redownloaded.

There are two types of CD-ROM drives we can mod:
24x to 40x
40x or higher

For 24x to 40x CD ROMs

Laser Head Adjustments:

The track pitch of CDs is 1.6 microns, and the track pitch of DVDs is only 0.8 microns. The minimum length of track pits of CDs is 0.843mm, and the minimum length of track pits of DVDs is 0.293mm. That's why DVD discs can store much more data in the size of a CD.
Pinpointing this situation, we need to adjust the laser head so it can read discs with smaller track pitches and shorter track pits. Open up the CD-ROM drive, do you see a lens on the rail? That's the laser head. On the side of the laser head, there's a screw you can adjust.

This is the key of this mod.

This screw can adjust the size of the laser beam that lands on the disc. Referring to the above, after adjusting, the laser beam should be less than 0.293mm, to suit the needs of DVD discs. So turn that screw 2-3 times. I got this number through trial and error. Mark with a pencil, in case you forget how many times you turned that screw.

Speed adjustments:

DVD-ROM drives can play DVD movies smoothly at 4x speed. If we're modifying a 32x CD-ROM drive, the rotation speed is obviously too high, increasing heat, and shortening the life of the drive.
So we need to decrease the speed of it.
Most people know that power supplies can provide 5V (red wire) and 12V (yellow wire) electricity output for Molex connectors. Find the Molex connector you'll plug into the modifying CD-ROM drive, cut the yellow wire or insulate it with tape, so only 5V of electricity is transferred to the CD-ROM drive. The speed of the drive is now 32 * 5/17 = 9.41x and can now fulfill our requirements.

40x or higher CD ROMs

now When 40x CD-ROM drives are released, most manufacturers are already producing DVD-ROM drives. To lower cost, they use the same core as DVD-ROM drives with DVD functions disabled. What we need to do here is to re-enable the DVD function.
Open up the CD-ROM, behind the circuit board, look for a jumper that says DVD JUMP. Find a jumper to connect this jumper. Thin metal wire also works fine.
OK, so the DVD function is unlocked, but we still need to decrease the speed. Use the instructions above on how to decrease the speed of the drive.

6. Boot to DOS
7. Copy the existing c:\windows\explorer.exe to explorer.org

9. You will also need to replace the explorer.exe in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache file as well with the new one.

Note: If the partition is NTFS and you can't access the files from DOS:
1. Start Regedit

This is a pretty simple tweak using which you can set any video as your desktop wallpaper.

Just follow the steps given below:

1.Download VLC Media Player and install it.

2.Run VLC media player,go to Settings->preferences->Interface->Main interfaces,then click on wxWidgets.Remove the tick on "Taskbar" and put a tick on "Systray icon".

3.Now go to Video->Output Modules->DirectX.On the bottom right put a tick on advanced options check box.You will now see some options.Put a tick on "Enable Wallpaper Mode ".

4.Now,select playlist and put a check or tick on "Repeat current item ".

5.Press the Save button.Now close the Vlc player and run it again(to save the settings permanently).

6.Now play any video you would like to set as Wallpaper.Right click on the video and click on "Wallpaper".The video would be set as your wallpaper!!!!
Since you have checked the option "repeat current item ",the selected video will play on continuously.It will start again when finished.VLC player will remain in your system tray.If you wish to remove the wallpaper simply close the player and you will get back your original wallpaper.

Okay first of all, for those who don’t know: what is an Google Custom SE?
It’s a search engine, a search that you can create from Google.

How does it work?

Well, you submit the sites in it, and you can search only in those websites. (can be very handy if you want to make a search engine for yourself ).

Steps ~

Create your own Rapidshare SE, this way you can easily find files to download.

1. Go to http://www.google.com/coop/cse/

2. Click on CREATE A CUSTUM SEARCH ENGINE

3. Enter the fields (search engine name, search engine description, search engine
keywords, select the language, select “only sites I select”, enter the websites in
the field where you have to enter the websites, in this case only http://www.rapidshare.com, select “standard edition”, select “I have read and agreed…”, click on next

4. Click now on FINISH

You will now come on the page: MY SEARCH ENGINES
Click on control panel

5. Click on CODE, enter in the field “specify search results details”, the URL of your search engine page, e.g this one created by my friend long ago for a friend ~ www.marvels.co.nr .

6. Put the “search box code” where you want the search bar to appear

7. Put the “search results code” in the search engine page, in this case “search.html”

Well, that’s all. You’re finished.

You can always put more websites or remove sites via “Sites”, there are a few more buttons. You can always check it out and play with it to make your SE more better.
